Kyle Debevec Gurnee, IL Obituary – Authorities have identified a 26-year-old man who tragically lost his life after his vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a tree near Gurnee early Saturday morning.

According to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek, the victim has been identified as Kyle Debevec, a longtime Gurnee resident.

Debevec sustained severe blunt force trauma in the accident, ultimately proving fatal despite emergency medical efforts. The incident unfolded at approximately 2:05 a.m. near the intersection of Stewarts School Road and Mill Creek Drive in unincorporated Gurnee.

Local emergency dispatch received multiple reports of a single-vehicle crash with entrapment, prompting a swift response from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Gurnee Fire Department.

Upon arrival, deputies and first responders discovered a heavily damaged Mercedes-Benz sedan that had crashed into a tree off the south side of the roadway. The driver, identified as Debevec, was found trapped inside the wreckage.

A preliminary assessment by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office indicates that Debevec had been traveling eastbound on Stearns School Road when, for reasons yet to be determined, he lost control of the vehicle, veering off the pavement before colliding with the tree. The impact caused catastrophic damage to the driver’s side of the car.

Authorities believe Debevec was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The lack of restraint may have contributed to the severity of his injuries, as he was unable to brace for impact. Firefighters worked urgently to extricate him from the mangled vehicle before paramedics rushed him to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

Despite extensive medical intervention, Debevec succumbed to his injuries in the hospital’s intensive care unit several hours later.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is currently examining the circumstances leading up to the crash. Investigators are looking into potential factors such as speed, road conditions, and any other contributing elements.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the cause of the crash, and it remains unclear whether impairment, distracted driving, or other external influences played a role.

Kyle Debevec was a graduate of Warren Township High School in Gurnee. His sudden passing has deeply affected his family, friends, and the local community. Loved ones remember him as a kindhearted individual with a bright future ahead.

As the investigation continues, authorities urge motorists to prioritize safety on the roads, including the use of seat belts and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
